partridge and yellow wet fly

seen this pattern and just got some natural partridge feathers. this is a size 12 wet/nymph hook.. I followed the recipe but instead of mole used olive/brown nymph dubbing and instead of silk used light yellow 6/0 thread. heres the recipe and the one I made. it really don't seem like much? fish like this? I made one so far and am gonna make more in olive thread and black thread bodies maybe even peacock body? love that peacock!!! lol. critique it and let me know whats wrong and I will make it better and make more.

Great tie Calvin Klien! Oh wait that was Marty. None the less, your well on your way to tying my favorite type of flies. You should check out this in my opinon Wet flies 2008.

If you like the peacock herl you will want to tie a Red Arse.

Good luck.
Thanks,
Terry

Hi Matt,

Nice tye. This style of fly needs to be sparse and you got it right. Keep up the good work.

You are going to sign up for the fly swap aren't you?

Re: partridge and yellow wet fly

Tye 12 send them to the swapmeister(JONI) in a sucrets or altoid tin. Keeps them safe and keeps 'em out of the trash for awhile longer. Don't forget to send postage or self addressed envelope to get flies mailed back to you. Lots of fun. Keeps me tying and trying harder to tye better to see what others are doing.

Re: partridge and yellow wet fly

heres a partridge and orange. the kind I am gonna make for the fly swap. I am gonna fool around and see what happens if I strip one side of the hackle down. maybe that will make it better? I might also used brown dubbing instead of hares ear grey.. I used only 2 turns of hackle. not bad. I like it. I am gonna tie me a few extra up for myself too lol. I wil make 12 up asap and just let me know how much postage costs for the return flys and I will send um. when is the date there due? I got to go somewhere tonight or would have um all done today haha. but I will just do half today and half tomorrow. seeing as not everyone is joined up yet..

Re: partridge and yellow wet fly

I too have found that website based in Ohio & also downloaded
that tying video to share when I have guys over to tie up some
flies. This is a very old & very good trout pattern & I agree with
all the others that you did a very nice tying job. Did you try, or
think of trying, the actual silk thread for the body? If I'm not
mistaken this variation of fly is typically tied very sparse. I have
tried this fly before on my closet trout river, but nothing I was
throwing was tempting any bites, but this is a great fly. Try a
couple different colors of body???

Re: partridge and yellow wet fly

ya I will have to get some silk as I here it changes colors when wet. I tied 6 up and they came out pretty good. some might have too much hackle tho. I used 2 turns each time. I got to leave for the night but I will tie up some more tommorow and send the best ones for the swap and keep the rest to fish myself here.
