adult midge patterns

I was wondering if anyone knew of some specific adult midge patterns that would work well. Spefically in still water. I have heard that a griffiths nat (spelling?) can represent an adult midge, or larger versions can represent multiple midges mating. Are there specific patterns or do I need to learn to tie my parachute adams in a size 22? Just the names should prob. be enough and I can search them on the web to find out the pattern description. Thanks in advance for any advice.
The reason I ask is that I've tried fishing some high alpine lakes down by Telluride, CO and seen fish rising by the hundreds to what I assume is adult midges but couldn't find anything in my box to get the job done.
