Re: Caddis pupa

This is a very nice fly by L.Bergström - name of the fly SUPERPUPPA
Easy to tie and a nice fish catcher (trout/grayling)
Tie in the hackle at back - dubb the body - wind the hackle to the front -tie off. Cut off the hackle at the top and bottom with a scissor.
Fish the fly with small movements

Re: Caddis pupa

Hi Tob1- I finally tried out the meted glue technique on a basic pupa with an ice dubbed body, but my glue is not as translucent as the one above. Is there a secret to getting the melted glue clear or is it simply more practice needed with less glue? I'm using a regular glue gun glue rod. Is that the same glue you use?

Hi Jose. I use a ordinary glue rod for the glue gun. I think maybe you have not heated the glue enough. The glue should nearly take fire. The glue have a milky color when cold but when it go over a temperature it will go clear. Try it some more , if the melted glue still will not be clear try some another brands. This is a bit try and error

Re: Caddis pupa

Thanks. I think you're right- I didn't let it take fire and tried to spread it while it was still too cool with a needle. I'll keep practicing. Thanks again for the tips.

Hi Tob1,

Thanks for the video. Your method of applying glue to the back is one of the best techniques I have seen.

Re: Caddis pupa

Thanks Tob1,

First- You're the man! Thanks for going through the trouble of making a little video demo. That's really something. Second, after not letting it get hot enough the first time, I was also actually heating the glue too quickly the second time around using a stove burner- messy. When I did it with a lighter it turned out much better, and when I got over the fear of burning myself, the flies started looking much better. Also matches are no good due to the carbon. I should have seen that one coming.

Thanks again.
