Re: Daddy long legs
In America, these are commonly called crane flies and the term daddy long legs is used to refer to a spider-like arachnid with long, slender legs. In Canada, the UK, Australia, and many other English-speaking nations, they're called daddy long legs. In any case, a crane fly/daddy long legs is a common name for any number of insects in the family Tipulidae (crane fly family).

Re: Daddy long legs
Great looking fly...thing is we call daddies spiders. Yes we do. Actually around here most people think crane flies to be large types of skeeters. Not really. It is a very nice looking fly. And well since crans reproduce in areas that may end up as food for trout I'd use it...but then again I dont fish for trout much so.
plland I am inprest that you knew it was a tipulidae (the crane fly that is) not many people do.
