My Crayfish Prototype...

Here's a pattern I sat down and tied this afternoon. The other crayfish patterns here got me thinking Smallie flies...Let me know what you think.

Sweet looking Crawdad. I'm curious why you decided to mount the eyes underneath. Did you want it to ride hook point down?

Re: My Crayfish Prototype...

I tried it after I tied my first one, it rode point up; that was my first concern about that hook. With that radical bend I think it changed the dynamics for weight placement. I'm already workingon phase 2...Updates to follow.

Re: My Crayfish Prototype...

I would be inclined to wrap a saddle hackle or two around the body woolly bugger style and then trim it close the body to give it a fuzzy look. But either way it's a cool pattern. What kind of feather did you use for the claws?

Re: My Crayfish Prototype...

Hey Short,

The claws are zonker strips; I wanted something that would stand up to some wear and tear... I was thinking the same thing on a hackle; then started thinking Crystal Hackle...The other thing I want to add is some rubber legs, for a little more motion...I will post phase 2 as soon as I tye some up...
