Looking for info on lines and reels I found this forum on the web, although I am from the Netherlands.
I found the info really nice and put together in a comprehensible way so here I am.

I have always been fascinated by the elegant swooping lines of the fishermen that used to fish the mountain streams of the Austrian Alps that was my parents ususal vacation destiny. Somehow I always stuck with spin rods, only fishing for pike and bass (&co) and that only occasionally, a habit I picked up in my youth

Last year I picked up a Ron Thompson 9" #5/6 IM travel rod on a whim and at a bargain price, and as we will be visiting Sweden this summer I am reading up (and gearing up). To me the rod appears well built and nicely finished but who knows....I probaly will buy a better rod at some point when my technique (or the lack of progression) allows me.

I already put the advice on 'the reel that I could not afford not to buy' to the practice, and am in the market for a second line (once I find out what weight makes more sense on this Rod).
All I know about my current line is that it is yellow, I can get in in the water so it must load the rod well enough and that it probably is a WF, and I've seen that it floats so it'll be a WF6F of whatever brand

I am planning to take a class at some point, as I hardly think that being an autodidact is closely related with a good technique or cathing anything (which imho is more important anyway)..... I did some casting sessions on my own last year and even managed to get quite a bit of line in the water fairly close to the point I chose, and even managed to do some false casting while the fly was still attached to the line while the water stayed in the pond....so all in all I lost some of the anxiety I felt although my youngest daughter (nine at the time) thought it looked hilarious and the fish did not cooperate
(I explain the latter by the fact that the pond mainly holds Carp and such)

Being Admin on a Peugeot(french car maker) Forum I am not new to this medium, yet I am quite willing to confess to being a newbie on FF.

My hobbies include building home audio, and I am a less is more adept(a species known to go to extremes) but do not have enough time for that as it is and I fear that FF is going to push that hobby to the wintertime.
