10 Hey Now! Greetings from Vermont

just stopping in to say hello. this site is really amazing!! i've 're-committed' myself to FF, and have decided to take it to a more conscious level. at my local fly shop, i was referred to the Hatch Guide for New England Streams (Thomas Ames, Jr.), which I'm sure most of you are probably familiar with. Anyways, I'm really excited about this book. I don't want to become an entomologist, but I do want to become a better fly fisherman....this little book will help.

Re: Hey Now! Greetings from Vermont

the guy who put the book together is apparently an accomplished photographer.

the guide/ book has amazing full color photos of the insects, then several examples of the tied versions in the stages that you'd want to fish them. then, it gives info. on the time of year, the behavior of each insect, and where, and how to fish each pattern. i've started using flies that i would normally overlook, and i've been catching more fish. also, i've been noticing that the tied patterns sometimes look absolutely nothing like the actual insect. lastly, for anyone interested, just remember that as the title suggests, it's primarily relevant to the Northeast. i have a feeling that guides or books like this exist for other habitats as well

Thanks! I live 10 min. outside of B-town. So, my fishtanks are the Winooski, New Haven, Dog, Mad River, Lamoille, etc. About an hour away, is the mighty Ausable River, which i LOVE!! Killer killer fishing there.

I will make it to NH this summer. I want to do the Magalloway. I'll definitely drop a line.

Re: Hey Now! Greetings from Vermont

Nice river the Mag....Best in the spring and fall for LLS and trout

Also your only a short distance from Upper Dam, where the Gray Ghost and many other famous steamers were created.....Beautiful place steeped in FF history to wet a line.
