New member in S/W Ontario with Tippet Q

Hello all, I have just restarted fly fishing in Southwestern Ontario after a 40 year layoff! I have joined the Forest City Flyfishing Club and ejnoy both fly tying and fishing for trout. Here's a Q about my tippets. I use a perfection loop to join my tippet to the leader and an improved clinch knot for the fly. Every time I get a snag, the line breaks at the tippet to leader loop thus losing my entire tippet each time. I have heard the surgeons loop is stronger than the perfection loop. Is it a better choice? Is it stronger than the improved clinch knot? I'd appreciate any thoughts. Bad enough losing the fly, but taking a couple feet of tippet as well is frustrating.
