Posted this in wrong spot yesterday, so once again: New here, great site. Recently retired, spent honeymoon in Everglades in 69' in tent camper, 15' canoe and fly rod. Caught baby Tarpon and mosquitos. Still have wife and fly rod (s). Fly fishing was a bit rare in Florida back then. Now live on fishy ponds in Sarasota and Geneva Florida. Do some traveling in our small RV and made it to Nova Scotia last summer, fishing all the way. Fish all over Florida . 3 boats from 9-23', mostly dedicated to fly the fly. Probably fly fished and fish more places and know less about it than most. Generally carry 2 rods in the car and if it's wet, I stop and cast. Utah, Oregon and Norway are pretty breathtaking places to fish, but have yet to have a gator back me out of the water there. We certainly do have a variety of fish here and probably a little less skill is required due to the volume. After 50 years, I still haven't figured out if it's the catching or the ahhhhh effect of the scenery that keeps me fly fishing. Sharing it with someone makes pretty good stuff. Sometimes, I forget to cast.
Anyway, thanks for having me Jim |

Re: New oldcapt member
Thanks for the warm welcome. IM just finishing rigging my 9'-6" Bass Hunter with very comfortable swivel seats and trolling motor to head for Merrit Isand and give the shallows a try Sure did catch a few fish there in the 60s-70s, but have'nt been there since about 74'. This will be the 2nd one of these silly looking little "clorox bottle" boats Ive owned, and really love them! Very quiet, stable and just inexpensive overall. Can sit or easily stand up to cast or stretch. Should do the maiden voyage in Upper Myakka Lake by my home tomorrow. Can take one seat out and take the Lab along sometimes for company. Also put a large livewell in the bow occasionally and bring home the days catch to restock the pond in my backyard. Not exactly PC, but makes for a pretty neat pond. I sent one of my commercial (I know, I know) boats into Mexico Beach ahead of a front with engine trouble around 75' and my crew was treated very well, received prompt help, and were back in the Gulf heading South behind the front the next day, I received a very reasonable bill in the mail a week later. Hope they are still the same in Mexico Beach.
