Hi folks,
My name is Michael Webb., and I live just outside Eugene, Oregon. I am just getting back to fly fishing after a 30 year break, (I'm 51 - lost my wife suddenly 7 months ago, need a little fish therapy). There is no shortage of fly fishing water in my neck of the woods, and a lot more within a couple hour drive. My casting is beyond rusty, have been watching videos and practicing. Have been doing a lot of net research on gear and technique, and quizzing the local fly shops (3 good ones locally). I just built a rod wrapping jig, and have a package waiting at the post office with the stuff for a light steelhead, coastal cutthroat rod. It's a Dan Craft Ft blank, 10', 7 wt. I built some rods when I was in high school. In time, I hope to get into fly tying also.
I love the info available in online forums, and thank you all for sharing your experience!
regards,
Michael

Hi Michael,

Sorry for your loss.

I am glad that you found us. We have a few members that builds rods. I think you made a good choice for your blank. I hope you post some pictures as you proceed with your project.

When I lived in Alaska and Vancouver, Wa. I use to visit Eugene to buy stock wood. There was a long time stock wood supplier located there. He made some of the prettiest Grand Father Clocks from Birds Eye Maple. My first trip there I had my wife and we had came from Alaska. We went into his house and I said I wanted to see his wood. He said "not so fast, we have to talk first". So we spent and hour or so just talking. I knew right away that I was going to like him. He had some wonderful Oregon Black Walnut and Myrtle wood.

Frank
