Good point Joni.
To take it a step further, I would add that it also depends on who and where the person gained alot of their knowledge from.
If you have a good hands on knowledge source your going to get the most out of your efforts to learn. It's harder to go it alone and teach yourself.

Re: Age/Experience

I've been fishing for a good chunk of my life...but only started fly recently. I learned everything I know about fishing from my dad, so I guess I'm only as knowledgeable and experienced as he is!

Re: Age/Experience

Like most I've fished from a young age, but have only been FF for 4 years and feel like I've finally come home.

Re: Age/Experience

My age is listed and i have been fly fishing for about 4-5 years.
However just in the last year and a half did i start fly fishing at least 75% of the time. However i have been fishing since i have been a kid. Most years i usually only fish 20-30 times a year or so, last year and this year though have been different. Last year i had 60 or so days, this year i should be able to get 100. Although i am also going to rededicate myself to my golf game once summer roles around, so even though i am easily on pace for 100 days now, it is going to be close this year whether i can get that many or not.

Experience is something you usually don't get until right after you need it

That would depend on the person's ability to observe. I learn more from watching and doing on my own than I could from books or chat.

No Offence at all, On another forum there is a young man around your age that SLAMS the big boys. He is able to go more often and get to places that us old farts might think twice (well, my old man maybe, I will try anything ONCE)
I plan on using this kid as my personal guide this summer. LOL either that or adopt him!
