Here lately I've been noticing a lot of "first 30 minutes" movies. By this I mean movies that most all of us have seen, and that have the best parts of the movie in the first 30 mins.

Examples- "The Break-up", "Mr. Deeds", "Joe Dirt" and many others. I like lots of these, but after the first 30 minutes, its kinda downhill. Adam Sandler's movies often tend to fit this description.

Anybody else identify with this?

Ok, I have a suggestion on a movie to watch with your gal this weekend, it's a chick flik so just bare with me. lol

Go rent "Maid of Honor" with Patrick Dempsey, I was actually very entertained, and laughed my butt off. Guaranteed to be a hit with your gal(especially if she is a Patrick Dempsey/ Grays Anatomy fan).

I agree. For a "chick flick" it was really enjoyable. Some great scenery too.

Thought this might be a thread about fly fishing movies -- I mean how many folks took up fly fishing after seeing the Movie -- certainly seemed for a while that everybody who saw A River Runs Through It wantedto try casting a fly (even if it wasn't actually "shadow casting") -- for the record, one of my favourite fly fishing films is the Norwegian film Trout Bum (2004) featuring André Brun -- HOWEVER since this is not about fly fishing films I would like to nominate the Canadian film from last year Juno as a must see -- it was nominated for several Oscars -- definitely worth seeing

There is nothing saying this thread should not include Flyfishing movies, so by all means let's include them. It might actually 'Kick start' this thread again.

Speaking of Flyfishing films, I just recently watched the 3 film works put out by 'AEG' aka "Trout bum Diaries". I don't know why I put off watching any of their work, but I did, and now........I anxiously await their next release this Spring.
Their adventures in just getting to the destination is as enjoyable as the fishing(ok,ok, maybe not as much fun, but close). lol.

If by chance there is anyone else who has not seen their work, I encourage you to see them as you will not be dissapointed. I really enjoyed the 3rd film where they went to Mongolia in search of monster Taimen.
Oh' Mylanta were those fish AWSOME!!!

I have not seen 'Trout Bum', but I have seen 'Juno', and liked it very much too.


I wonder if John Gierach gets royalties for the use of 'Trout Bum'?

Funny you should mention that. Yesterday, after getting home from the river, I wanted to sit at my vise, tie some flies and watch a movie (my vise is set up with a view of the tv). Having already watched the Netflix films I had, I searched through my own library. After rifling through 20 or so films, there it was, A River Runs Through It. That's what I needed to see. I watched it twice.

It had been one of my favorite movies for a long time, simply because of the poignancy of the story. I had always thought that Robert Redford's reading of Norman Maclean's words was some of the most beautiful narration in all of movie history. However, I didn't get interested in fly fishing because of the movie, it was rather a random thought 15 years later.

I will tell you this, after fly fishing now for almost three years, this movie and the novella, means even more to me than it ever did before. Now I appreciate the beauty of the fishing scenes that didn't affect me so many years ago. By the way, I thought Brad's casting was pretty good in the film.

Another thought: I also loved the book, The River Why, which is in production as a "major motion picture". The Drake magazine's latest issue includes an article about a legal battle over the film rights to the book. Apparently, David James Duncan asserts that since he never gave the rights to his publisher, they should not have sold them to someone else. According to the article, he's had no input on the current production and wants to make the movie himself with another production company. It should be interesting to see how this plays out.

I just lost 1 hour and thirty minutes of my life that I will never get back.....

We watched "Burn after reading" with Clooney, Pitt, and one of my favorites John Malkovich. What a total disappointment....Wow!!!!!

The last three movies I saw I been very disappointed in, actually they all sucked.

Quantum of Solace, yea that sucked as a Bond film.
Valkyrie, Tom Cruise still cannot act.
The Day the Earth Stood Still, wow they ruined a good movie with a remake.


What made it worse was all the previews were either remakes, sequels, or spinoffs. What's the deal.
