No Fishin For Awhile!

Hi All,

I hurt myself at work Friday afternoon by lifting a heavy tool and found out I'm the proud owner of my very own hernia! Should be getting surgery (my first in 50 years of living) set up soon. Guess that rules out fishing, and especially rowing a boat for awhile.

Phil

Hi Phile,

That is bad news. Here you are with a new boat and can't use it. There is always next year. It will give you more time on the forum and at the vise.

Frank

Phil, really sorry to hear about this, particularly when the San Juan has just dropped its water level down to good fishing range. I'll be thinking of you when I'm up there next week. Heal up quick!

Hey Neil,

What days are you gonna be there? Went to the doc on Wednesday and was told I can fish a little, as long as I take it easy. My son and I may try to sneak up that way sometime between Monday and Wednesday for the day. I've been reading chocolate foam wing emergers are the hot ticket right now

Hi Phil,

Yeah, I saw on some of the San Juan-specific forums that chocolate emergers were one of the hot flies of the moment on the SJ. Paul Freeman was good enough to earlier tie me up a bunch of San Juan-specific flies good for this time of year, and I notice a lot of foam wing emergers in there. Of course, with my eyesight, they all look like mosquitoes to me anyway .

Sent you a PM on the specific days I expect to be up there next week. Hope there's time in there for us to get together.

Neil

Heal up dood! I think Frank's idea of tying while benched to get ahead is mighty smart.

Cosby did a hilarious bit back when called "Fat Albert got a hernia" that you might appreciate.

Re: No Fishin For Awhile!

I'm not near as sore as I have been, but I'm not stupid, either! A full blown hernia is one heavy box away and I know it. I'm hoping to get in to see the surgeon sometime this week to get things scheduled. In the meantime, I can fish a little, provided I take it easy.

We got my son a rod off craigslist yesterday and he's dying to try it out! It's a custom Green River 9' 6wt built on a Powell blank and it's a nice fast action rod. With a cheaper reel and Orvis line, it set us back 200 bucks. I think we did OK.

If everything goes right, we'll go to the San Juan next week for the day. With the luck I've had lately, I could sure use a break! In the meantime, we've been busy replacing the flies I had stolen last month. Thank goodness I was smart enough to tie a bunch on the windy days this spring. We're actually ahead of the game.
