Ok, let's try this, Joni how did your tying session at Jimmy's go? Did you meet any others besides Dorian?

Re: The "Shout out" thread....

Hi Larry,
I will do that, but I want to clean it up first.

How's life treatin ya? bet the season is just about over for ya eh?
Thanks again for that great piece of Beaver in the material swap, that will last me until my end of days. LOL

I think we should plan another Green River trip, that was alot of fun. Maybe make it a 2 dayer this time.

Fysh

Your welcome on the beaver hide.

I've been really busy at work, the university finally decided to bring the software on the PBX up to date so I have upgraded it twice and I'm in the middle of the third and final upgrade (been cutting into my weekends and fishing).

I went up to the Miracle Mile (between Seminole and Pathfinder reserviors) on Saturday. Heading north out of Sinclair the North Platte was pretty iced over, except the riffles. The forecast was 15-25 mph wind with gusts to 35. It was pretty cold when I got on the river so I moved up near the dam to block some of the wind, then in the afternoon it warmed up really nice. Ended up so nice I shed the jacket, wool hat, neck gator and gloves. Didn't catch anything up near the dam so I moved down into the pocket water and landed two rainbows. I sure was surprised to see how many folks were out fishing, not many fish being caught though. Heading home around 3 pm the North Platte was ice free, really surprised to see that. Its pretty much tailwater fishing until spring around here.

Yes we will have to plan another Green River trip in the spring and I would be up for a two day trip if Davo would.

Larry

Re: The "Shout out" thread....

Hey guys. Hope everyone is well.

Yeah Fysh, it was fun meeting Joni and being able to watch her tie a few flies. She seems to be quite the fisherwoman. She did make a suggestion that I am going to try. She ties all her flies on to tippet with a surgeons loop instead of the typical knot. She thinks it allows more natural movement of the fly and it makes sense to me so I am going to try it out!

She is a talented tyer, I wish I could have stayed longer and learned some more.

Anybody been fishing lately? Got plans to go out? Hey Davo...what's up? Been a while since I've heard from you.

Re: The "Shout out" thread....

That's cool Dorian, always good to learn new stuff.

I have not been out for a long time. The trip to fish up around your neck of the woods got squashed as apparently the Brown Spawn has been done already, non-existant, or possibly late. My sources say it has been an odd year as far as the Spawn in the area. But on a good note they are running the river mid-week to see if there is any new activity on beds that are usually full but have had no activity this year.

I think Davo is really busy with his security job this year, I think they were a few people short and he had to pick up their shifts.

Re: The "Shout out" thread....

Hi Dorian,

That is a good tip from Joni. I like the no-slip mono knot better than the surgeons loop. I find it harder to get a small loop with the surgeons loop but that may just be me.

Frank

Frank you make a really good point and one that is of concern to allot. The smaller the loop the better.
While I did have a camera on what I was doing, it really needed to be behind me on the knot. The trick is, make a loop as small as you can but still feed the fly through twice. NOW, stick the eye of the hook in the loop and slowly tighten. You can get the tiniest of loops this way and it is easy. I actually learned this which freezing my fingers off a long time ago. It helped to steady my hands.
Dorian was great....and very good looking, but that is a girl thing and I am old enough to be his........big sister ;-)
Mr. Henry's Lake himself, Bill Schiess stayed the who show and mention it would be in the Idaho Register, so being the egotist I am, let me know LOL
We went to a close lake yesterday after seeing how cold, dark and gloomy it was. Got out on GLASS SMOOTH water and no breeze. Sweatshirt weather all day...AWESOME.
Landed about 15 in the 16 to 20 inch range from 5' of water and missed about 20 (Right at the tip of my toon...DANG-IT!)
Home now so I will get on those samples for you "D". Picked up some killer NEW tying material from Jimmy.
