Re: Spouses or significant other.....
BlueDun, your situations sounds like a rare one. I can't get my wife to touch a fish let alone try to catch one. She does support it me going (she almost doesn't have a choice, I go with her dad). We have plans to go the Island park, Idaho the first part of November. Like you, we have worked out a deal. Her parents are joining us for a few days and I will be going fishing almost every day with my father-in-law while they are up there. We will have our boys outings and the girls will go swimming or shopping or something like that.

Re: Spouses or significant other.....
Wanted: Wife
Must; love fly fishing, red wine, dark beer, cook well, own a drift boat, like to do the driving, enjoy the three stooges and movies that blow things up, like cats, like Mexican food, like football, be able to carry her own pack, read a map, and put up with a worthless SOB. I think I just want to marry me. ![]() |

Re: Spouses or significant other.....
This is possible advertisement:
"WANTED:Woman who will put up with a 'trout bum". Should be able to cast well; especially good to have reliable roll-cast as I fish in heavily covered water at times. If has own fly tackle and waders would be ideal. Better yet if she has a drift boat and lives in Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Utah, British Columbia, Alberta, or anywhere else that is close to incredible trout streams. Don't care if she "outfishes" me -- in fact likely will. Must love fly fishing (especially for trout) as much -- or more -- than she does me. Definite bonus if able to tie killer flies. Probably should have good paying job as not much "financial reward" being a "trout bum". However I do appreciate the rise of a trout to my fly ..... certainly as much as I do great mountain vistas or amazing sunsets over the water I'm fishing on or the colour of the trees in fall .... as least as much as some do cuddling by the fireplace, romantic candlelit dinners, walks on the beach (all of which I'm not adverse to as long as doesn't cut into fly fishing). Am also very dedicated to “catch and release " – so if things don’t work out she can always “put me back”. Please forward pictures of latest trout caught – if larger than my best fish not a problem. Tight lines, wanting to get together soon out on the water.”

Re: Spouses or significant other.....
I think I have the most perfect girlfriend in the world. She got me into fly fishing. After 3 months of dating she wanted to go fishing with me up in Canada on our yearly trip. Well she brought nothing but fly rods. She loves fly fishing for bass, pike, muskie, panfish, carp, and salmon. But tends to dislike fishing for trout. She loves wading rivers and we have been to some fantastic areas in the Midwest. On top of that fact that she loves to fish, she has a dual major Business and Mathematics(specifically statistics) in college.
That to me is a perfect girl but on top of that she loves fine whiskeys and single malt scotch. Beer in general. Wines, good food. Who doesn't agree that is a perfect woman? |

Re: Spouses or significant other.....
My wife enjoys fishing, but has only gone a few times (largely because we've got little kids*). She does really enjoy being out in a canoe, though, whether she's fishing or not (and whether I am or not), and we even spent some of our honeymoon bass fishing, so I've got no complaints. She's been talking about putting more time into it, which would be great.
*My oldest (a three-year-old) is fascinated by the idea of fishing and while she wasn't old enough for it in practice this year (though she liked running around by the lake), she loves looking through the catalogs, even without me. I'm anxious to get her started next year. |

Re: Spouses or significant other.....
I posted this on another forum but thought I'd share here too (regarding thread on music to fish by) but thought this might be "appropriate" (or not) to this discussion:
"I'm Gonna Miss Her" (originally written/sung by Brad Paisley and also known as "The Fishing Song" -- this fly fishing version by Mike Ormsby, based on his adventures as a "Trout Bum") Well I love her But I love to fish I spend all day out on this river And hell is all I catch Today she met me at the door Said I would have to choose If I hit that fishin' hole today She'd be packin' all her things And not the waders or the fishing vest Or fly rods or boxes of flies or drift boat I bought her in an attempt to get her out fly fishing No she'd be leaving for sure And she'd be gone by noon so I'm gonna miss her When I get home But right now I'm on this river And the trout are starting to rise I'm sure it'll hit me When I walk through that door tonight Yeah, I'm gonna miss her Oh, look there, another bite Now there's a chance that if I hurry I could beg her to stay But that water's right And the weather's perfect No tellin' what I might catch today Oh look, I've got a trout on my fly so I'm gonna miss her When I get home But right now I'm on this river And the trout are starting to rise I'm definitely matching the hatch Besides "catch and release" rules Mean she can always "put me back" I'm sure it'll hit me When I walk through that door tonight Yeah, I'm gonna miss her Oh, look there, another trout on my fly Yeah, I'm gonna miss her But I guess it's another case of "catch and release" So she just "put me back" Oh, look there, another trout
