Re: Spouses or significant other.....
My wife is ok for me to fish but would never like to go out for fishing with me. I encouraged her once and she tried the spinning and she caught a number of fish. She was happy but she wont do it again after that day. Her reasoning is that why release the fish after you catch them. So I explained to her its part of the sports for having fun. She rolled her eyes and said you are wasting your time for doing it. We live in NJ and I told her you should not even try to consume fish from our place. So her reason again, why catch them in the first place, go elsewhere that you can eat them...
She never like fly fishing... she find its hard... LOL Oh well, some women are hard to explain the hobby we have.. LOL |

Re: Spouses or significant other.....
In most cases I realize I am the significant other, but in our house, yes we both ff, and we fish together allot. I do get out more than the hubby, plus I guide and teach.
He can tie, and has a vise, but whines about his fingers being too big, so I am the designated tier. In fact I tie for his brothers also. We both contribute to our addiction.

Re: Spouses or significant other.....
All kidding aside I would love to meet a woman who shared my passion for fly fishing -- I'm very envious of those of you who have a significant other (wife, girlfriend, etc.) that you can fly fish with -- I think it certainly is a great way for couples to spend time together

Re: Spouses or significant other.....
My wife fished (spinning) the high Sierras with me one time 20 years ago. She just retired so we are both getting FF gear and off we go. Hope that she will hang in there.

Re: Spouses or significant other.....
I consider myself lucky to have a wife who likes to fly fish. Lauri picks her own gear, lands and releases her own fish. Most of the time she out fishes me. I've learned to live with it.
Lauri was the one to suggest fly fishing while on vacation a couple of years ago. We both enjoyed it and liked the fact that we did it together. She started out with a Sage Launch outfit. I bought a used TFO rod and cheap reel. She knew I wanted a different rod and watch me as I tried Sage, Winston and Scott rods. The surprised me with a Winston BIIt one day. Yep I guess I'll keep her. Scott |

Re: Spouses or significant other.....
It's something I would like -- if you have a significant other (spouse/common-law, partner, or whoever) who goes with you fishing I would think you should consider yourself very fortunate -- sharing your passion of life (fly fishing) with your life's passion just seems fitting
Besides, living up here in the Great White North you have to find some way to stay warm -- especially after a cold winter's day on the river steelheading!!!! Tight Lines, Mke (wishing I was somewhere out on a river -- with a significant other!!!!)

Where do you get your patterns for "fishing" for women????? Fly tying in a laundromat?!?!? -- using wool to attract little old ladies?!?!? -- flashabou to excite the younger females after demonstrating your prowess with a whip finish?!?!? Damn thing is it might just work -- then again I suppose one could cast further afield and try to hook them on a dead drift -- or maybe just wade right in and try to catch one in the middle of a run -- any of these are possibilities but really I think no woman would be caught dead in any of the ways suggested and would run away fast after drifting the unsuspecting male with a good bop on the noggin followed by casting an eye out for more such fools!!!! So while I appreciate your suggestion, I'll cast my line out on the waters in a different presentation. Cheers, Mike

Re: Spouses or significant other.....
I very much prefer fishing with my spouse, but he is also my best friend. However, we usually go different directions as soon as we hit water...LOL
