Hidden gem for thrifty anglers

For those on a budget.... A guy from Louisianna sent me a Quarrow 9 wt 4 piece over here to Iraq to try out. Though There are no fish in the brine pond nearby I get to practice my casting. I put the cabelas reel with 10wt line on and tried her out. This rod has a smooth action at all power levels. I put some serious umph behind a few casts to see how much line I could shoot and was impressed. I was able to acuratley shoot 75+ feet of line with pretty decent acuracy. The fighting grip is perfect for my style. I even practiced a little spey casting with it and was able to zing out some pretty impressive casts. At one point I started casting for raw distance and shot out all my fly line...ugly but long. I can easily keep 60 feet of line up on backcast. Im boxing this rod up and sending it home ahead of me, I think it will be a great rod for redfish....shame is it will probably replace a $500 Orvis rod I bought 2 years ago. Ayway, thought I would share that with you all.

My wife has a 5wt quarrow which we won at an auction, she calls it her lucky rod. It's a real gun and actually outperforms other rods in our collection. I got a chance to try it out on Wyomings' Green River Zone 2 last summer- I was impressed with how it could drop dries in on a dime, yet had power enough for big rainbows.
