"and must not contain extra channels. The color space should be CMYK or Grayscale....Images should not contain embedded transfer functions or halftone screens. Do not use ICC profiles or other color management." The prohibition on extra channels and color mangaement pretty much prevents manipulation jpg's into CMYK TIFF or EPS files. I don't know what magazine published your photos in 01/02, but the major ones now are more restrictive with regard to digital photography. You may get a couple jpg photos published, but if you want to make a regular thing out of it, you need a camera that shoots in RAW (or at least TIFF) format. I hear you on dunking the Pro camera, though. That is a big chunk of change to put at risk. There are plenty of sub-$1000 cameras that shoot in RAW format, though Mojo, these are just terms that describe how a camera describes each pixel in a photograph. Unless you are into heavily manipulating photos, or publishing them, you really don't need to know about any of this.. |
