Re: San Gabriel River West Fork

Tree Catcher, My next trip was going to be Bear Creek as i havent been up there in years. Did you access the area along the back road to big bear above Mentone hwy 38? i dont know if i can remember how to access the area as i remember it being kinda tricky. Nice to hear the area is still happening. Where did you turn off the road? i thought it was near a ranger station but i dont recall. Thanks for the reply.....

Hookenum, Hope you made it to Bear creek, I sent you a PM on Friday night on how to get there. For me I went to Deep Creek and had fun on about 10 to 12 bows that were abut 8 inches long.

How was bear creek. I was at the lake last weekend and I was told that bear creek has been slow and not much water was being let out? Any luck?

Re: San Gabriel River West Fork

Looks like the pics did not make it, will try again. When I was at Bear Creek three weeks ago, it seemed comparable to Deep Creek at this time. There was water flowing and enjoyed myself on some new water. A little spooky since I was there by myself.. LOL hate being part of the food chain

I got the directions and appreciate the reply. Nice photos, those are some pretty trout. I'm trying to arrange getting the ATV's out to Bear Creek as i know the road is a bumpy one. I really want to get out there before the weather comes in to the area. Thanks Again

Re: San Gabriel River West Fork

Nice to hear people going to the West Fork of the SG again. I haven't been for a few years. We had some crazy rains that raised the water level pretty high and destroyed the fishing. Glad it's back on track. I'm gonna have to pull out the bike when the weather clears.

I've never tried bear creek or deep creek. They look like fun. Now to find them.

Re: San Gabriel River West Fork

I often fish the west fork. Although it is not a destination fishery, it is convenient and productive. With the currnet cold it will be a challenge this weekend. Riding up to the dam 2 months ago, it was incredably low. Still having luck with drys. Hope to see you up there.
