Great article! I am actually one of those weirdos who got started fly fishing in the salt and then started fishing freshwater. Probably has helped me learn to cast far, but also ends up making me over work my lighter rods.
My favorite type of saltwater fishing is sight-casting to redfish, because I haven't gotten to do much better. I'm really looking forward to being able to fish for bonefish, tarpon, and snook someday. I doubt I'll ever become permit obsessed, but I probably will want to catch one some day. Need to catch a sailfish someday too. And Mahi, and Yellowfin, and.... |

Take a look at the Sea of Cortez thread, sails, dorado, yellowfin, and even marlin... I have seen (not caught) 4 marlin finning in one day and some people have seen even more. And some, now and then, have caught them. Great place to be and I wish I was right now...dorado are there now and I saw one report of sails caught last week.
