Yucatan Fly Fishing

In general, flats fishing has been excellent for the past 3 months. The winds have been moderate and most guide services have come back to the landing with happy clients. It started raining the first of June and the flats have been covered with fresh water which has slowed down the catch. Bonefishing in Ascension Bay has been good with Tarpon, Snook and Permit also plentiful. Cozumel flats fishing has also been good and deep sea fishing between Cozumel and Playa del Carmen has been excellent. There were 2 fishing events this month, the first being in Puerto Morelos and the second being in Playa del Carmen. Catches were above average for both contests. Fishing north of Cancun has been hit and miss with more Tarpon being taken than Bones and Permit. Tarpon Fishing at San Felipe de Yucatan and Holbox has been well above average. The summer months in the Yucatan are always hot but so is the fishing. Rates are generally cheaper during the summer so contact your favorite guide ASAP. Tom, www.pescamexicana.com
