As most of you know, last week Hurricane Emily did her best to disrupt business in the Mexican Yucatan. Most of the destruction took place between Pamul (south of Playa del Carmen) and Punta Allen. The sea turtle egg crop at Pamul was destroyed and fish life along the reef was disrupted as far down as Boca Paila, Punta Allen and Ascension Bay. Punta Allen is the gateway to some of the best day-in day-out flats fishing in the world. Because the Category 4 hurricane passed to the south of Cozumel, Cozumel's northern flats were not negatively effected. Guides are finding Snook and Bonefish to be plentiful. Tarpon and Permit are there but spooky. If you have a trip planned to Cozumel, Playa del Carmen or Cancun, do not hesitate. The cruise ships returned 2 days after the storm and life is back to normal. Equally, fishing north of Cancun is business as usual. Permit, Tarpon and Bonefish are being landed in the Punta Norte and Isla Blanca area. Hotels and restaurants are open and the only signs remaining of a hurricane are battered palm trees.
