Re: How Many Fly Rods Do You Own

Hmmm......let me think! A 3wt., 2-4 wts., 3-5 wts., 2-6wts., 1-7wt. and one 1/2 of a 6 wt (that's a weird story! Anybody ever find 1/2 a flyrod in the Clarion River?) for a total of - 9 1/2 fly rods. Boy, I'm glad my wife doesn't read this forum!

Re: How Many Fly Rods Do You Own

I have a 4wt, 5wt, 9wt and 12wt. I used the 9wt for silver and red salmon fishing and the 12wt for king fishing in Alaska when I lived in Fairbanks. Hope to get back there someday, boy do I miss the salmon fishing on a fly rod.

Re: How Many Fly Rods Do You Own

2... a 4wt for trout/panfish and a 7wt for pike/bass/carp (or sometimes when fishing lakes for larger trout). Been thinking about an ultralight rod for the small creeks I tend to fish a lot but at the moment the 4wt will have to do.

Re: How Many Fly Rods Do You Own

As of today I have 6.

00wt Sage 7'10" TXL
2wt custom 6'6" on Forecast blank
3wt Sage 8'9" SLT
3wt TFO 7'9" Finesse
5wt TFO 8'9" Finesse
6wt Winston 9' BIIx

I'm trying to assign a purpose to each rod so I can sell the rods I don't really "need". So far, all I have come up with is that I don't "need" the 2wt, which isn't as stealthy as the 00wt or as powerful as either 3wt. A case could be made that I don't need a 5wt rod when I have a 6wt BIIx, but it's nice to have two rods that can be used for nymphing for when I want to fish with a friend who doesn't own a fly rod, or as a backup rod, in case anything were to happen to the Winston.

Re: How Many Fly Rods Do You Own

I've been doing this since I was 13 years old and have only sold one of my rods. Therefore I have a bit of a collection. The rod sold was a St.Croix 7' 3wt. that I bought because I could. I already had a three weight cane flea so I never fished the graphite stick.

I have a few cane rods from the flea weight up to a 1963 8'6" 8wt. Light Salmon rod. Of all the rods I own if I had to choose one to take anywhere to meet any condition that may be encountered it would be a 1979 7'9" Far and Fine 5wt. low modulus graphite from Orvis. It has proven itself from Atlantic Salmon to Pacific Silver Salmon and all Trout in between. So in reality I only need one rod but having the group of them can make even a man of modest means feel wealthy.

I guess my user name might give you the idea that I have gathered a collection of reels to compliment the rod pile.

By the way it has been raining here in Wasilla for 8 days. This has all my favorite rivers and creeks swollen and un-fishable and that's what has me posting all these responses on the site. Regarding the rods I fish them all.

Re: How Many Fly Rods Do You Own

Right now I own as many as I can cast at any given time: 1. However, I already have plans for my next two rods. Just waiting on the budget to permit more purchases...

Re: How Many Fly Rods Do You Own

My wife says I have way to many Rods........ but I tell her that they do break but I have clients that do break the tips off or shut them in the door by accident or step on them or use them to get flies that are stuck in the tree's etc. I have a grand total of 24 Rods of mixed personalities!
