Re: Touchy subject:Barbless or barbed

My 2 cents worth:

All saltwater fishing for me:
When fishing bait barbed, circle hooks. They almost always end up in the lip or side of the mouth, rarely get swallowed making catch and release fairly easy.
When fly fishing I crush barbs mostly because windy days sometimes require a "chuck and duck" style of casting and I hate removing barbed flies from various parts of my body

FYI watch this video on how to remove a hook from your body without cutting. The trick is to lay the shank down against your body, in this case its a finger and use mono to pull on the bend, the hook will come right out with minimal damage.

Re: Touchy subject:Barbless or barbed

I currently have barbed hooks in my tying box, but I smash the barb down so it acts like a barbless. I rarely keep any fish, so that works for me better when I have to release them. Provo River is mostly catch and release
