Default Royal PMX

I got a pack of 20 flies from Orvis and one of the flies is called a Royal PMX. I was just wondering if PMX stands for something? I've tried to find it on the net, but no luck so I figured I'd ask you guys.
Thanks, Cabot

Nice!!

Your fly knowledge is impressive to a newbie.

I got the same Orvis 20 pack and thought "after I remove all the flies from the fancy packaging, how will I ever remember their names??"

I tried to keep that card they came on, and put them in my flybox in order, and studied and quizzed myself on them(i am a newbie). but my first trip out, with my waist pack, i waded to deep and it got wet, so chucked it. The thing i liked was the info on the back of the card, tellin where and when they where and what type water to fish em in.

Glad I could help. Here's an explanation of the name: Parachute refers to that puff sticking up vertically out of the top of the fly- intended both to look like wings on a bug but also to help the angler see the thing. Royal is used to describe flies with the combination of red floss and that green fuzzy stuff known as peacock herl. The Madam X got its name from the pattern the legs make if you look down on it from above.

That fly is known for working very well, so maybe that description will help you remember what to buy when your supply gets gobbled up by hungry trouts.
