Buying Flies without breaking your wallet?

Just got my order from Big Y.

The only place I have ordered other than them is Blue Fly Cafe.

The BFC flies are head and shoulders a better made fly from what I can tell in handling them. The Big Y mosquitoes I got look very good though. The streamers and minnows though appear to be a notch below what I have purchased at BFC.

I have an order from Streamflies that should arrive today or Monday and I post when I get them.

I would also add that every purchase I have made from BFC they included several, several additional flies for free. But, they are about $0.10-0.50 more expensive across the board.

I ordered some from streamflies on Sunday and got an email saying they were shipped on Monday but no tracking number. Hoping they show up soon.

I tried Flyshack and the hatch chart was cool online but the quality wasnt that good.

Riverbum is awesome, definitely not the cheapest but way cheaper than local shops and the quality is top notch. Shipping is quick too, and free if you order over $50.

Got my flies from Streamflies.

They are better than the ones from Big Y I would say.

Blue Cafe is far and above anything I have purchased online. Its not even close.

Id honestly return most of the the Big Y flies if I could.

I've purchased a ton of flies from the flystop. For the most part, quality has been good. But not all of them. The thread has come off the majority of the egg sucking leeches that I've purchased (the "egg"). I've also had a hook break on a couple of steelhead when fishing smaller "trout" nymphs, so I don't know what type of hook they are using for their ties. Some sucker spawns have come unwrapped.

That said, this is not meant to bash them at all. 90+% of the flies I received from them have been very good flies and I will continue to buy them. But I do think I'm going to look elsewhere when I'm buying flies for steelhead because I'm not confident in the hook strength. For trout flies, I'm confident. And the quality on the dry flies has also been excellent, surviving many fish before replacement is required.
