More Silk

I decided to try BLUE base with Yellow silk looking for the ultimate GREEN.

Turned out pretty cool:

Here is the thread used:



Laid down the base of Blue thread with a copper wire included plus tied in the Yellow Silk:

Then I covered with side by side YELLOW SILK and ribbed with copper wire:



Finished up the Chironomid with Peacock and White Ostrich for gills:



NOW ADD WATER:



OLIVE!!!!

That's a really nice effect. I'm going to try it with a soft hackle using Pearsall's primrose silk. I'll post some pics when I get them tied up.

Absolutely... looking forward to seeing them. I should be tying up Soft Hackles also, but the stillwater action is still great on the Chironies.
I did tie one with a burgundy thread and RED silk on top...Man that looks sooooooo wicked.

I'll bet that gave you a blood red appearance. Might be really interesting to use for a bloodworm pattern(?); still in the chironomid line, just a larvae instead of a pupae.

This underwrapping is interesting since a lot of times you'd like to get that translucent color that so many insects have; you know, that "I can almost see right through it" color, but with a definite tint.

Hmmm......here I am on vacation and now I'm thinking about my tying bench and what thread colors I do and don't have.

I'll bet that would also look really good as the tail on Chan's Illuminator chironomid(?) [I've got to stop this - I'm going back to sit on the porch and watch the ocean - ]
