Default Looking for Sow bug

Last year I fished Soring Creek in Pa and after a hard day met up with an angler that gave me a few Sow bugs that he tied up. They were deadly and saved my day. They were grey and there was a distinct black line down the back. Interesting part was that he tied in a momo loop to tie off to that he did to improve the action. I have looked all over for something that looked like these with no success. Anyone make anything like what I dscribed or know of a distrubutor or shop where I may pick some up. Unfortutately I do not tie myself. Something I need to do when I retire and have more time.

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for or not. If it is you could order them in gray and take a black sharpie and make a stripe down the back. Check your local fly shops to see if any of them have this fly.

Don't know about the mono loop, but maybe a "Ray Charles" ?

The back could be colored with permanent magic marker of a strip of Dark Brown or Black Flashabou instead of Pearl.

Sorta guessing here, but some folks might tie flies like this with a loop of heavier mono off the butt to serve as a handy place to attach a tippet for a dropper, but tying a short tippet for a dropper directly to the bend of the hook would seem more secure.

the closest thing that comes to mind, espesially since it was in PA is the "little Guy" Tied by Aaron from Trout Predator Online using peacock herl stripped for the back of the fly, you can find it on youtube just type in TPO little guy and it should come up. if no one makes it and thats the one you want let me know i might be able to work something out with you to bust out a dozen or so.

I am sure the fly shop in State College carries a sow bug pattern that works on Spring Creek. I think this is the pattern they carry:
14 -20 hook
gray ostrich herl body
scud back shell
mono rib rapped through

I never came across the one with the black rib up the back - you could probably tie in a piece of black 3/0 thread or crystal flash under the shellback and get the look.

Here is a link to their site if you would like to get information. You can call them and they will send you a catalog or take a phone order.

If you don't find any let me know what size you want and how many and I will tie you some.
