Weed eater cord uses

I came across a fly pattern a few minutes ago that has the oddest addition and pattern. It is called a steelhead beetle fly and it was tied with weed eater cord. Nothing too unusual there although the cord was tied in front of the eye of the hook. This was to facilitate a deer hair wing that was tied in and to tie down the foam.

I had never thought of using weed eater cord but I will now. Will be trying to tie some of those hoppers as well as using it to build up the body of my larger lace crocheted shrimp patterns.

I will post the site if someone lets me know it is okay to do so. The site has a forum and I know many forums don't allow links to other forums.

They are used for melted mono eyes on larger flies and for week guards.
