Three that worked for me

Just spent two weeks in New Brunswick on the Miramichi. I take zillions of flies with me; I used three to good effect. Celtic Beauty, Christmas Tree, and Shady Lady Spey. Go figure.

Gary: After seeing the extreme quality of your flies up close I can understand why those patterns worked so effectively. Congrats!

Thanks, guys! It was my first trip with the Marquis - and first with a click and pawl for big fish. I'm hooked (all puns intended!). My last fish Saturday morning (lots of pics on my blog) hit so hard and ran so fast right out of the shoot that the guys 400 yards downriver could hear the reel scream!

Added a whole new dimension to my fishing, just like the two handers did (the Marquis was on a Beulah 12'6 7/8 wt).

Glad you like the flies, too!
Gary

Re: Three that worked for me

Brian, glad you liked the blog post! The Beulah was fine, especially for a 12'6 7/8 weight. I did up the compact Scandi shooting head line weight 10 grains to 460 (Beulah sent a 450) and I liked that better. Up until last week, I thought a 12'6 was just fine for the Miramichi. That was until I cast a friend's Loomis Dredger 8/9, 14'9". Yikes, what a cannon (and an expensive one at that!)!

I'll be saving my pennies to have one with me for my September trip to the Miramichi!

Good deal man! Killer doo in the last pic of your blog! Hahaha just joking, only cause I'm green with envy! I especially dug that canoe launch, kinda funny how the simplest answer is often the best.

Wow Gary! Nice photo. I like the reel and the flies but seriously, it's a post card photo. Post card I'd buy anyway.
