skip the hair stacker for now, you can make one easily from all sorts of tubes.
you might learn to whip finish by hand , Lefty Kreh on YouTube can help you get it down pat.

practice tying a pattern or two, after a few dozen and you'll get the hang of it.
Schollmeyer's book has some killer patterns. Jack Dennis, Clouser,Whitlock,Liesenring all good, don't forget Charles Brooks
