Default PMD's

I am going to be headed up to Colorado around Mid-July, so I called two fly shops in boulder and denver. I asked them what sort of flies to tie up for the trip, and 1 fly on their lists was a PMD.

I knew what a PMD (Pale Morning Dun) was, but I'd never bothered to tie or fish with them, so Im relatively in the dark on them. PMD in itself seems to be a fairly loose term, because when I looked them up, I found that there a million varieties, and I don't want to tie a bunch of the wrong flies.

Is there anyone In The Boulder/Denver area, or someone who knows more than I do, That can give me a website that has a recipe for tying the right sort of PMD's for a Mid July trip to North Central Colorado.

Thanks

When I fished the Pan and Roaring Fork a coupla summers ago, I just tied up a bunch of catskill style dries (minus the wings) in size 16 with dun hackle and PMD colored superfine dubbing.

And then I proceded to catch all my fish on caddis patterns. I've likely still got lots of them in pristine form. Care to barter anything for them?

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.

ksbrowntrout2: Here is a link that has some good pictures of PMD patterns. Where in CO are you planning on fishing?

The Denver/Boulder area, and anything within about an hour west of there is where we will fish.

Here is a link (interactive map) showing some of the waters you might like to fish, just click on the stream: Colorado Fishing Network: Where to Fish in the Northern Front Range

And here is a good fishing conditions report updated weekly by the Colorado Division of Wildlife: Statewide Conditions - Colorado Division of Wildlife

Good fishing!
