Default leader question

When I've been practicing my casts I've been using no leader. When I add the leader and fly on to fish, should I still be timing the direction change in my cast to the end of the line, or am I now supposed to time it to the end of the leader?

Thanks

Cleetus,

I am not sure how to answer your question. But, I can say you should be practicing with a leader and fly with the hook broken at the bend. You should always practice the same setup as you intend to fish.

Cleetus, I think you will be best off timing the direction change in your cast to when the fly line straightens out. By doing this, by the time the rod tip has begun moving the same direction as your hand, the leader will have straightened out as well.

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.
