The SH spey techniques work well for casting these rigs. I like a gentle double spey to place an indicator rig up stream.

When you don't water haul you can do a few false casts but you have to slow waaaaaay down. And really be careful that the loop doesn't hit the rod or you end up with a nasty tangle. I've gotten to were I can cast 4 flies if it's not a windy day. It's just a matter of always keeping the line loaded and finding the rhythm.

Water haul as well as what some us fondly call the chuck and duck. Depends on the specific situation.

The chuck and duck is just flipping your flies up stream and allowing them to drift down stream then flipping them upstream again. This in my experience is the best way to present nymphs in pocket water. Its almost the same as a water hall, but for pocket water or tight line nymphing.

The chuck and duck can also be modified for indi rig fishing from a drift boat.

Ihave found that when i use an indicator the water haul is the best casting the heavy nymph rigs.

The heavier and bulkier the indicator the more clunky it feels, at least to me.
