Default Q about casting a longer head

Hi,

I have a SA Stillwater line, it has a 55' long head. The line shoots nice once the head is out of the rod, it's just that I struggle to get the head out smoothly. I'm curious as to what the "typical" caster would experience. In order to false cast 55' of 8wt intermediate line out of the rod, is a single haul or double haul likely necessary? I'm asking this so I know what to concentrate on when practicing.

I've been able to shoot line a few times but need to increase my success rate. I'm typically trying to give the head 3-4 good pulls into the rod, then I do 1 false cast to get the head out, then I try to do the cast and shoot.

thanks

I would say you have to use a long, double haul. Also, I would try to shoot a lot of line so that I keep my false casts to a minimum. (I like to make my presentation cast after my second back cast. Yes, I shoot line after each back cast.)

If you make too many false casts it will become very hard to keep carrying 55of line.
