This is funny. When I was up near Mosul our Chief asked if we wanted to do a fishing trip on the Tigris. We all said, "Hell yea!" and started asking about times, etc. It turns out he was joking around and thought we were idiots for actually wanting to do it.

I still don't see what the problem would be. We had armor and rifles, what could go wrong?

When I was in Baghdad in 2005-2006, there were some guys fly fishing at the Al Faw palace for the carp Saddam had swimming in the palace ponds.

No matter where you could fish, you'd probably end up hooking a 'brownfish'

Yes, Punta Gorda, well actually half way between Punta Gorda and Arcadia on US 17.

Funny, I started my professional fly fishing career in a little shop on US 17 in New York State and lived in Suffern, NY which is on US 17. Then worked on the City of Newburgh, NYPD on US 17K.

Then my parents moved to the very most southern house on US 17 where it deadends in Punta Gorda and I built my fly fishing school on US 17.

I read about that, they even said some guys set up a fly fishing club down at the palace. Pretty cool.

Another cool story I just remembered: I took a helicopter to FOB Q-west, and the pax on the FOB was set up in what looked like an old Iraqi regional airport. Inside the main lobby was a big mural of rainbow trout in a river, snow covered mountains, and a few moose grazing next to the river. It was definitely old and it had Arabic writing on the mural. I have no idea where they got the idea for the mural, but it was cool and reminded me of home.

Correction taking into account General Order 1:

"Here, hold my O'douls and watch this!"

By the way, O'douls does have some alcohol in it, like .001%. But we found out that you still can't catch a buzz even if you chug 30 of them. It's a good way to make yourself sick as a dog though.
