Default Stupid newb question...assembling a new rod.

Just brought home my new (and first in a long time) fly rod. It's a TFO Pro II. My question is on assembling it..when trying to put the sections together, they seem to stick around 2/3" from beating seated. I'm using enough force to where it's tough to pull them apart, but again it's not even close to being seated. I tried a search but it all I could find was debate on twisting vs not twisting and wax vs. no wax. Should I try some candle wax on the ferrules?

Stop pushing until you figure this out.

Why do you think it's not seated?

Picture?

Pic of the bottom two pieces. All of them stop at a similar point when trying to assemble.

I thought that's probably what was happening.

It's called an internal ferrule. That's the way it's supposed to look when it's assembled correctly.

Take a look here:

Ah. Told you it was a newb question
So for another...how do you know how much force to use when assembling? Just enough that it takes a little effort to pull back apart?

This is like Goldilocks and the three bears.

It should be not too tight, not too loose, but just right.

Slide it in with little pressure until it stops and then apply a little more pressure.

You should be able to take it apart just by gripping the rod with your hands, not having to hold onto the guides for extra leverage.

There are running arguments about whether to use wax or not. Also whether to twist the pieces or not while assembling.

rusty 54 will become famous soon enough

I believe that if you check the TFO site, they will tell you to twist about 45 degrees and not to use wax.
