I've not seen a reel with two drag adjuster knobs before like the cabelas reel shows. Appears to adjust the drag for each direction of rotation. Do you know if it's purpose is that you use a specific drag knob depending on which hand retrieve you set it up as?

This things got me curious. We'll see if I'm curious enough to buy it when I wake up in the morning!

Hey marky3130,

That's an excellent question, and I really don't know, to be completely honest with you. But, at its going price-- FREE --with an extra spool included for it and all wrapped into the purchase of the CR Royal Coachman reel and an SA fly line to boot, it might be fun to find out. Where else can you get two fly reels, an extra spool, an SA fly line and free shipping for $50?

Just sayin'... Let me know if you're interested, my friend...

I have one of those Cabela's reels. I don't use it much. That is how I interpreted the drag. I backed one off all the way and cranked the other one down all the way. It isn't much of a drag. On a rod for small fish where drag isn't a big deal it will do the job.

While I'll grant you that neither of these reels are going to be challenging Hardy's anytime soon, the graphite Cabela's will get the job done nicely, and the ball-bearing guts on the CR Royal Coachman should last quite awhile! And, with an unused SA line included, it's tough to beat two reels and a line at the price I'm asking...

Dollars to doughnuts says that the CR Royal Coachman due to its drag set up is not that much different than an Orvis Battenkill....EXCEPT....It has ball bearings instead of the bottom end bronze bushing found on the Orvis.

Though, I don't think it is real gold

I agree with you, grtlksmarlin... I think that ball-bearing system would do well under most fishing conditions for quite awhile, especially if taken care of properly. And, it's easily changed from left to right-hand retrieval, or back again. Not a bad set-up for the money...

And, marky3130? From my fussing with the Cabela's 567, I'm pretty sure that you're right on with the dual-drag system, as the knobs seem to adjust both out-going and incoming line drag. With its extra spool and minimal weight, it would make a great back-up-- or primary, if needed --reel system for the CR Royal Coachman...

One last drop before the pair are shelved or put into the "use" rotation...

Have a great Sunday, my friends...

As is the intent with the Orvis rod and reel set-up listed elsewhere, these two reels are soon to be headed elsewhere. Be it the rod cabinet or someone's fly vest, both should be put back onto the "playing field," so to speak.

Thanks for taking a look at the pair of reels, my friends. Much appreciated...
