Broken Fly Line

I recently got new Rio fly line and it snapped today when it got caught in some rocks and I was trying to get it unhooked. I lost less than 10 feet of line. What do I do if anything? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Depending on your head configuration you could have lost anywhere from a quarter to a third of the head mass. The line may load what you have. If it is acceptible to you, you could fish it. Personally, I would replace it.

So its okay to use for awhile. Im a college student and I just bought the new line within the last week and have only been fishing 3x since getting the line. If I do continue to use it should I just put a butt section on. It really sucks where I lost the line in the rock I had no chance of untangling due to cold water temps, the water level was to high and it was hooked roughly 5 feet below the surface. Still really upset about it.

Tie a foot long butt section made from heavy monofilament and give it whirl.

You can buy a fly line from Allen Fly Fishing for just a few bucks. Replacing it is your best bet.

Tell us what RIO fly line it is and the weight.

Bad Luck,we all know Top Quality lines don't come cheap these days.
Depending on the taper,it may be of some use to make a Shooting Head.
Good Luck in the Future as you are going to be a few Bucks down.
