Default Fly Line Backing???Tips pls

So I just received my Allen XL reel and going to put backing on it. I was wondering if anyone can share some tips on putting it on.

Knots, how to get it tight and even?

I usually goto a fly shop but I want to attempt this myself.

Thanks

To get it even you can cradle the backing on a loop of a paper clip* as you crank your reel.
*just straighten out a paperclip; all except the last "U".
To add your fly line the nail knot isn't too tough with the use of a WD-40 straw or similar small straw.

I've begun to use an Albright knot to attach the fly line. Easier to fool with than a nail knot.

Here is another Arbor knot that I have found works as well or better than the one already shown - does not get hung up when sliding it down to the arbor hub, and definitely holds against any fish.
