Default Reasonably priced line for Avid 3Wt

Hello Everyone,
I am new member on this forum but have visited it in the past as a great source of info. The current (Bass pro house brand) line on my Avid 3wt is pretty worn - kinks, cracks and stiffening. I am getting back into fly fishing after a 5yr hiatus so the line is that old.
Considering that this rod is mid flex & my desire to fish mainly dries but an occasional nymph, can anyone recommend a fly line? I have searched the forum for 3wt fly line recommendations but did not find any post specific to the St. Croix Avid series of rods.
I plan to use this particular rod for some of the smaller streams around here.

Thanks in advance,
Shrish

Hi Shrish,

Any DT line from Cortland, Scientific Anglers and etc. would be fine. If you have an eBay account just type in 'DT 3 Fly Line' and you'll get 77 results. I had them list in 'Lowest Price first' and they can be had starting at 15 dollars.

I have two Spey lines I bought from a shop that sells last years lines on eBay. The combined retail price of the lines when they were the current color was 244 dollars. Together I have 67 dollars in them, they work great and have caught many fish. It's up to you what or how much you spend but I have had great luck with lines from the Bay.......

Welcome to the forum,

Ard

Hi Shrish,

What price range are you looking at? Cabela's markets a line called "prestige plus." These lines are slick from the factory, have a welded loop, and list for $40. I use one, and it works like my more expensive flyline on my other outfit. Sometimes Cabela's puts their flylines on sale!

Cheers,

Robert

I was considering only WF lines but I guess a DT would be sufficient, especially for the type of fishing I am planning to do (most of the trout are averaging ~10in, the larger ones are too smart for me to outwit with my meager casting & presentation skills at the present )

The Cabela's prestige lines are well with in my budget at the moment, will take a look at them.
