Default RIO- Selective Trout vs. Trout LT

Time for a new line. RIO has discontinued the Selective Trout, which I really like, and replaced it with the Trout LT. Have any of you used both these lines?

Nobody... Well, I fished with the new Trout LT line the other day, and it's not the same line. Not even close. It does roll cast way farther, but that's not a real important part of my small stream trout hunting. The Selective Trout made delicate presentations of small flies very natural and easy, the new LT line just doesn't load, and feels pretty lifeless and flat, can't think of another way to describe it. It's a WF5F on my 7'9 Orvis Far & Fine.

My .02 worth..

Yes I have used both and for what its worth

Selective Trout II on a 1wt in WF is great,I really like it
For some reason exact same line on exact same reel on exact same rod only in 3WT I dont care for it to much.

I've drank the SA Mastery textured Kool aid and I like it

Mastery textured GPX WF 6wt - on a tip flex Orvis Hydros is awesome
Mastery textured trout taper on 3 different 3wts and 2 4wts
Plain mastery series on a back up 4wt

Used to like the RIO till I tried the mastery line

I see you are in Colorado too, I was most impressed with the trout stalker this Feb when it was bone cold it still stayed sosuppleit would turn flies over so easy. My favorite part is the dimpling really makes it ride high in the water. It also allows your line to break the surface tension when recasting which really helps me avoid the old dunk the dry fly on a recast

Thanks for that. I emailed SA with my questions and my needs. I got a reply back the next day, detailed and informative. Based on that and the recommendation here, I'm buying the SA line next week. RIO never responded.

I have the selective trout line with my 3wt and its nice. I wouldnt have paid for then the 30 bucks I have into it but I dont use it all that often.

If you want a Rio line that will shoot check out the Rio Outbound II line. Its awesome.

After packing, moving, unpacking, etc., I was finally able to fish the new SA line today. This is a very nice line, and it has exactly the delicate presentation I was looking for. Hooked a nice brown on the first cast, many after that, and one big rainbow. Thanks, SA.
