Which inexspesive fly line?

Hey all. I am looking for recommendations on an inesxpsesinve fly line ($40). there are many choices available right now, especially with all of those sales going on. I want opinions on which one will work best for me. I am lining up a 7'6" 4wt and want a line that is slick enough to shoot well, ACTUALLY FLOATS, and will hold up fairly well. Opinions on the following?

RIO mainstream fly line
AirFlo Supple EX fly line (I know there is a thread on it right now)
Sage Fly Line (mad by Rio)
SA Headstart and Lefty Kreh Signature Fly Line
Orvis Wonderline (Have heard problems with longetivity and welded loop)
Any others around my budget

Also open to buying used quality fly lines in good shape if anybody has some they want to sell (though that is not the purpose of this thread)

I just sold some cortland fly line before I bought this rod (oversight) but am looking to step it up in quality.

Opinions and suggestions welcome.

Orvis tent sale has lines for $29 plus shipping. I bought some for my 5 wt but haven't used it. Good price.

I'm sure someone will mention Allen lines, lots of folks on here talk about them. I recently got a double taper 4wt line from dorber. Low price and I like it.

Excepting a couple old Orvis lines and a new Rio Spey, all my fly lines are SA Mastery. Some of these lines have been in service since 1994 and still very good for fishing. One of the Orvis lines is an SSS WF that they sold in 1986 - 87, still good for use and I fish it couple times a year.

Either we are becoming way too fussy about fly lines or they are not made the way they were just 10 - 15 years ago. I've been eying some 6 weight lines for sale at 9.99 from an auction seller. I will probably try one,

Allen doesn't show any lines on his site right now, wonder what happened?

i have a few allen lines and like them. my bet is they quit the fly line gig to focus on their rod and reel development.
although my favorite line is airflo, i would say any of the lines on your list would work fine with a lean towards the sa and airflo.

Check-out "The Fly Shack" @ FlyShack.com - Your Source for Quality Flies and Fly Fishing Gear. Will (the owner) has name brand "over-runs" of most any weight that you will look for. He won't say what line it actually is, but I believe it to be a Cortland line. I picked-up 80' of WF4F for $19.95 the other day, for my back-up rod.

I went with the cv2 line from bps

I have to say it has allowed me to learn fly casting with ease and flys very good for the price. worth a try for sure. Ill buy it again once I wear the one I have out.

SA makes a line they sell at K Mart for 10 bucks. Great line for a small price. I have stories.
