Default Use for old worn out fly line...

Just retired an old 6 wt RIO line with cracks, nicks, etc. Anybody have any ideas for uses for old lines? Hate to throw it in the can knowing somebody out there has come up with good ideas. Thanks.

Use them for streamer fishing; grease the line with Mucillin or similar line cleaner / floatant and fish away. The line will cast as well as new unless there is a real problem and the line dressing will keep it up so you'll be able to mend and etc. If I tossed every line I have that has a couple cracks I would have to buy many new lines.

Keeping an old line is also good for practice casting on the lawn.

Good point to keep it for lawn practice. Living at the lake though I usually experiment off the dock. This line has hundreds of cracks. It might have spent too much time in the hot car over a few summers.

More seriously....when you buy a dt line cut it in the middle connect a half of an old one with a half of the new one....usually enough to fish ...been doing this for years and it worksif you don't cast too far...

Next spring think 'Pole Beans.'

In the mean time, the grass casting is a good call.

1. Lawn casting

2. Teaching beginners with #1

3. Use it to tie on replacement net bags. It is perfect for that.

Fly Vines created a business around used lines. Not sure if they sell, but it is a cool idea.
