Default Line suggestion for Sage Z Axis 590-4

Interested in hearing your recommendations of which line to try with this rod I recently purchased. Thanks for the comments.

I have the 8.5' five wt and found that the rio grand was heavier than I like. The rio gold is perfect on it. Sweetandsalt might chime in here as he was the one who recommended the Gold to me. (both lines were 5wt)

I also have the 8' 6" 5 wt.
The GPX 5wt is slightly heavy. It's really about 5.5 wt.
Rio or SA 5wt works well.

I recommended the Grande or GPX because I liked the slightly heavier line on the Z Axis. I could feel it load better. I also feel the same way about the Sage One whereas many other like that rod with Rio Gold. There may be some trial an error to find what works best for you.

I use Grand on mine and have not cast it with Gold. Like the others, I know that many suggest Gold and it may even been the line that the Z Axis Series was designed with.

I like Grand on mine for two reasons: It helps me for in close work and the extra weight of the line helps with streamers. When I fish this rod I'm usually battling wind or throwing streamers.

The GPX Textured sure is a nice fit on my 490.

I like the S A texture trout boss on my 496 cast great and mends great . But I am a S A guy. I think that Rio made the Gold just for this rod.

I use Rio Gold WF 5F on my Z Axis 590-4 with fantastic results. Try it, you may come to the same conclusion. The Grand and GPX felt too heavy when casting > 30ft (My max effective fishing distance is ~45ft). Bear in mind that I can cast longer to show off but that isn't always effective for actual fishing.

I have the SA GPX on a fast action 9' 5wt rod and am not nearly as impressed with it as the salesperson seemed to be. I have the Rio Grande line on a fast action 9' 6wt and really like it. It loads the road better (being slightly overweight) and seems to straighten out better.

I have sa gpx on my z axis 590-4. I like the way it casts and it seems to roll cast just fine also. If you cast by feel as opposed to looking I think you will like it.
