They are very Common in Europe. We call it "pitzenbauer ringe"
Two reasons
A) to connect fluorcarbon with poli lines. Fc cuts poli !!
B) Save leaders

So I am not the best knot tier in the world but not bad either. Just sitting here watching Home Alone as it snows in Denver. Typical night cleaning out the hip pack even though I haven't fished in forever, reading the internet bored.

Ran across tippet rings. For a guy like me who fishes 6x leader 99% of the time, wouldn't these work just fine for regular old Rocky Mt trout fishing. Every time I do a double surgeons to put new tippet on I end up losing 6-8" of leader. Not a big deal but after a few outings I blow through a leader.

I could also use these to go to 7x FC tippet when I need to step down a touch.

Am I off my rocker, but for 6x or 7x these are so small I cant see them affecting performance much if at all.

Am I off my rocker ?

I'm using the "Cut Throat" braided leaders with the ring on a 8' 4wt with a 6x tippet, I was amazed how much better it was then the tapered mono I was using.

Rings for me from now on, no looking back.

Get yourself a safety pin and slide the tippet rings onto it. When you need put one on your leader, slide it through the ring while the safety pin is closed. Much easier to manage them this way. I use them sometimes.

Looks like I need some 2mm rings and safety pin. I have the rings on my cutthroat leaders and haven't had any issues using them.

My reason is it is easier to tie a clinch knot than a perfection loop. My perfection loops do not hold up well in the fine tippet, they slip or break. love tippet rings

Solid believer on Furled leaders, even on my 3 to 6 weight 2handers. A proper size FL will lay out like a yard stick on the business end of your cast. Repeating my self here, but FL's come in rod weight specific builds. A 2 - 4 weight rod, a 4 - 6, etc.

If you're going to use these on a two hander get the heaviest one(s) the builder makes. A 'six weight' 2 hander will (fairly well) equate with an 8wt single hander.

Are the 3mm ones strong enough for throwing streamers on 3x or lower?

I have always just used tapered leaders, but am interested in trying other ideas. Especially for a nymph rig or dry flies. What happens when you are fishing like a size 22 dry and using one of these? Surely they sink
