spike2 is on a distinguished road
Default Cortland Sylk

I have an Orvis Penn's Creek Bamboo rod 7' 4wt rod. As I understand things these lines are a bit denser than others. Would a DT3 or DT4 perform better?
Appreciate your thoughts. Dave

The Sylk lines are true to line weight. I've got an older Orvis Battenkill bamboo 7' 4 wt with a Hardy Featherweight reel and a Cortland Sylk DT4. It's a good match to my rod. Don't know how the Battenkill and Penns Creek tapers compare, though. Mine is pretty fast for a shorter 4 wt and really needs a DT4 rather than a WF4 to load it. A DT3 would be too light for mine. If your Penns Creek 4 wt is a slower action, though, it might be more of a WF4 but DT3. Since your Penns Creek is a relatively recent model, I suggest you just call the Orvis rod factory and talk directly to the guy who builds them.
