Default Gotta find a linefor an 8 wt

Well I went to a fishing show yesterday and wound up bringin home a "new" fly rod. Long story short, I had a credit for 95 dollars at a fly shop I don't usually go to. I was lookin for a 7 wt but he had an 8wt redington red fly 2 and said he'd give me that for the credit. I also picked up a GRX casset reel for it. Now I'm lookin for a line. I tried the rod with a WF8F rio grand and it loaded pretty well. I don't want an orvis line. I just wanted to know what people think of the rio lines. I know they have the clouser, carp, and rio grand lines. Those are what I'm looking at. Any suggestions on lines to look at would be great as well as any opinions on these.

After casting an 8wt Sage Performance Taper II fly line, I switched ALL of my lines, from 2 to 10wt, over to those. they are made for Sage by Rio. They are in the 70 dollar cost class, but if you pay attention, you can get them in the 30's on flea bay. They are slick, slick lines with no coldwater memory that I can discern.

Just a thought,
Gary

Simple answer: If you like the rod with a Rio Grand, get the Rio Grand.

More complex answer designed to make you think: Here is a reality. A rod and a line make the delivery system for the flies that you will be throwing. Figure out which flies that you will be delivering, and make your choice based off of that. Are you delivering large bass flies, sparse Steelhead flies, bulky bunnies or chickens, or multiple nymphs under a puffy indicator? Keep in mind that there are some specific tapers that will make casting different types of flies easier for you.
