Level of tying experience needed to tie this pattern Beginner, a fairly simple pattern using basic tying skills
Materials listed in order of tie in:
Hook Dry Fly hook size 16-18, size 16 here
Thread Yellow 8/0
Tail Partridge fibers
Abdomen Pheasant tail fibers wrapped up to 1/3 point of shank
Hackle Partridge
Thorax Sulphur yellow dry fly dubbing (Superfine, Fly Rite etc)
Head Yellow thread
Special tying notes Tie in tail. Tie in 2-3 pheasant tail fibers at wrap up to 1/3 point. Tie in partridge feather by tip. Dub thorax. Take 11/2 -2 turns of partridge to form soft hackle collar. Form head with thread. Whip and tie off.
Target species Trout
Fishing notes Mayfly emerger imitation for Sulphur (Ephemerella dorothea) in Eastern waters, and PMDs or Pale Morning Duns (Ephemerella infrequens) out West.

Great looking soft hackle! Sulfur is a pattern that works here in NEPA almost all season long (same with a cream cahill or cream elk hair caddis). Reminds me that I've got to get some more tied up for next Spring.

As soon as I saw this fly I thought... dang, why didn't I think of using pheasant for the body?
I wish I saw this before this past weekend which I spent at sulfur central.
