Type of Fly Caddis Pupa
Originator of Pattern Rick Anderson
Tied and Submitted by MoscaPescador
Level of Tying Experience Needed to Tie This Pattern Intermediate
Materials Listed in Order of Tie In:
Hook TMC 2457 or equivalent, size 6
Bead Tungsten bead, 7/32"
Weight .030" lead wire
Thread 6/0 Uni-Thread, Black
Tail Gadwall flank feather tip.
Body Three strands of small Ultra Wire spun together: hot orange, hot yellow, silver
Thorax UV Ice Dub, pearl.
Wing Gadwall flank feather tied on using a distribution wrap
Collar UV Ice Dub, black. Peacock herl can be used as a substitute.
Note 1 The tools that are needed to spin the wires are a vise and a set of rotating hackle pliers. Take three strands of wire (about a foot in length) and lock it in the jaws of a vise. Grab the other end with the jaws of the rotating hackle pliers. Start spinning. Keep spinning until you get the twisting consistency that you like. From there, the spun wire is wrapped just like any other single strand wire.
Note 2 For different effects, other feathers can be used for the tail and wing. Mallard, Teal, or Wood Duck flank feathers have different coloring and barring. Partridge could be used as a substitute also.
